Leotard Guides

Your ultimate guide to finding the perfect leotard-from practice to competition.

Why the Right Leotard Matters

If a gymnast is training multiple days a week, the right leotard makes a difference. It needs to stay comfortable, hold its shape and be something that they actually want to wear.

Premium Leotards Worth the Investment

Some brands stand out for fit, durability and overall quality. These are the leotards gymnasts reach for during more serious training. I notice that there are absolutely two brands that my athletes gravitate toward: GK and Destira. They are fashionable, fit right, are comfortable and breathable. They are more expensive, but the quality is worth it. if a a leotard is inexpensive, there is the possibility it might be scratchy or uncomfortable while practicing key moves repetitively. There is nothing worse than that. It’s a good investment to make. You won’t be sorry.

What gymnasts actually care about

Fit that stays in place: A leotard that shifts or rides up mid-routine is every gymnast’s nightmare. Coach Mady only recommends leos that stay put no matter what.
Comfortable fabric: Scratchy seams and stiff material are a distraction. The right leo should feel like a second skin.
Styles they feel confident in : When an athlete loves what she’s wearing, it shows on the floor. Confidence is part of the performance.
What teammates are wearing: Let’s be honest — gym culture is real! Fitting in with the team matters to young athletes.

How Many Leotards Do You Really Need?

Most gymnasts do best with 3-5 practice leotards and 1-2 higher quality favorites. A small, reliable rotation is better than a drawer full of unworn leotards.
